Our Team Will Use Cups That Suction the Skin

This technique will help alleviate tension, stress, and discomfort when the skin and tissues lift. This allows better blood and oxygen flow to the affected areas and provides fast relief.

Cupping may be used independently in combination with other forms of treatment during chiropractic care, massage therapy and/or acupuncture treatments.

Cupping Increases Blood Circulation to the Area Where the Cups Are Placed

This may relieve muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair. It may also help form new connective tissues and create new blood vessels in the tissue.

While the Marks That Sometimes Follow Cupping May Appear Painful,

the treatment is actually quite enjoyable and relaxing

Like other massage modalities, cupping soothes the nervous system, creating a parasympathetic “rest and digest” response. Inducing deep relaxation makes for a more effective, gentle and comfortable spinal adjustment. Cupping also quickly relaxes muscles and connective tissue when applied in between vertebrae. These tiny tissues are not always easily accessible by traditional massage therapy techniques making cupping a great addition to any treatment.

Cupping in Traditional Chinese Medicine

Cupping with our Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncturist

TCM Cupping is a treatment technique used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that involves placing special cups on the skin to create a suction effect. The term "cupping" comes from the cups used in the process.

Here's how it generally works:   Heat or air is used to create a vacuum inside a glass, silicon or plastic cup. This cup is then quickly placed on the skin, causing the skin and superficial muscle layer to be lightly drawn into the cup. Depending on the specific treatment, the cup may be moved around the area or left in place.

The suction created by the cup can penetrate deep into your tissues causing them to release harmful toxins. It triggers the lymphatic system, clears the blood vessels, and stretches and activates the skin.   TCM Cupping is primarily used to relieve what is called "stagnation" in TCM terms, and is widely used to relieve respiratory problems like bronchitis and pneumonia, as well as certain types of pain such as back or neck pain. Some practitioners also use it to treat depression and reduce swelling.

Similar to other TCM techniques, cupping is a complementary therapy and is usually used in conjunction with acupuncture or other therapies.
